In Šehić’s look at everyday life the anger and helplessness of a generation overrun by war are reflected in depth. His poems also tell, however, of the post-war period in Sarajevo, what psychologists call “post-traumatic stress syndrome”, and leering at the promises of the West and its high-gloss heroes: Captain Picard, Oprah Winfrey and Superman.

The bilingual selection of poems Abzeichen aus Fleisch [Emblems of Flesh] by Faruk Šehić has been published in the poetry series tradukita poezio by Edition Korrespondenzen, Vienna. Translated from the Bosnian by Hana Stojić.
