Zvonko Maković, poet and art historian, was born in 1947 in Osijek, Croatia. He studied art history and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts oft he University of Zagreb, where he is now the Head of the Department for Modern Art and Visual Communication. Maković writes art critiques, scientific texts, poetry, essays and columns. In 2001, he received the prestigious Croatian literary prize Goranov vijenac for his complete poetical works.
