September means literary festivals and TRADUKI supports a host of them! So here’s a little roadmap: Things already kick off at the end of August. Yesterday saw the opening of the Reku Reku festival in Novo mesto, Slovenia, where Suzana Tratnik, Stanka Hrastelj and Nora Verde are among the participants. On 30 August, literary events will continue in two distinct places: the poetic programme of the European Literature Festival Cologne-Kalk will begin in Germany and the ninth edition of the Druga prikazna festival will take place in North Macedonia.

At the beginning of September we will then head to Croatia and Slovenia. In Zagreb, the Festival svjetske književnosti will run for a whole week, featuring Austrian author Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker who will be presenting the TRADUKI-supported Croatian edition (tr: Andy Jelčić) of his novel Wilderer. From 2 September onward you can visit the Vilenica Festival in Slovenia. This year’s Vilenica Prize will be awarded to Miljenko Jergović and the SEP Prize for Young Authors to Monika Herceg. Among the Slovenian authors, Dušan Šarotar will take centre stage this time.

If you want to enjoy summer a little longer, the Vrisak Festival in the Croatian city of Rijeka combines enticing literature with balmy sea air. Meanwhile, further south the twelfth edition of the PRO-ZA Balkan festival and the eighth edition of ArtArea will open their doors in Skopje mid-September, followed by the BookStar Festival, at the end of the month. There is no stopping us – and you! Bon voyage!
