The Leipzig Book Fair 2021 is cancelled, „Common Ground. Literature from Southeast Europe“ goes digital!
1991 saw the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The collapse, the bloody wars that followed as well as the mixture of hatred and hope that accompanied it all, formed an entire generation of writers – forever marked by what they lived through these authors’ literary work is informed by what has happened. Exactly 30 years after the breakup, Common Ground puts the Archipelago Yugoslavia – From 1991 to Today centre stage, presenting new books, background stories, and unexpected twists of fate. In addition, another important event is in focus this year: 2021 also marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the Hoxha regime in Albania.
In our digital programme we will present authors and artists through discussions, book presentations, animated films, documentaries and a host of other formats – all accessible online!
Stay tuned!
The theme of this year’s Traduki programme at the Leipzig Book Fair is Archipelago Yugoslavia – From 1991 to Today. What has become of the archipelago 30 years after the breakup of Yugoslavia? What was cast off and what forgotten? What remained and what, if anything, was saved? Common Ground Programme Curator Hana Stojić is working on an unmissable programme featuring distinguished authors from the region.
The programme will be presented online, available here and on our YouTube channel.
