Aleksandar Zograf

On 29 May 2025 a very special event will be taking place as part of the Vienna Comix Week: Viennese musician Jelena Popržan and Serbian comic artist Aleksandar Zograf will meet live on stage – improvising, reacting and inspiring each other. With her viola, voice and electronic beats Popržan will create intricate soundscapes in real time while Zograf’s poetic, political, personal drawings will peu à peu emerge on the screen. Their performance is an homage to director and anti-fascist resistance fighter Vojislav ‘Voja’ Nanović as well as an allusion to the current protests in Serbia against authoritarian tendencies.

The performance is part of the exhibition opening Life in Comics by Aleksandar Zograf. The exhibition will run until 1 June 2025 at the Brunnenpassage in Vienna. On Friday, 30 May, the comic artist will also hold a workshop and masterclass at the Haus der Republik – Funkhaus.
