TRADUKI is a European network that connects Southeast Europe with the German-speaking world through the means of literature, namely books, translations, festivals, workshops and residency programmes for authors and translators. Moreover, TRADUKI also connects Southeast European neighbours among each other.
By means of books, translations and other literary projects TRADUKI connects Southeast Europe with the German-language region as well as Southeast European neighbours among each other. Over the years, an intense and fruitful exchange has flourished: between languages and literatures, readers and publishers, and the literary scenes in fourteen European countries.
But TRADUKI is not only active in the realms of literary and cultural exchange, TRADUKI is a civil society project with a distinct Euro-political component. In promotes dialogue between the countries of Southeast Europe and the German-speaking world as well as within Southeast Europe. What started as an experiment in 2008, is now an example for multilateral international cultural cooperation and for building bridges beyond borders in constantly changing communities.
Translators play a pivotal role in this tightly woven structure. And so their invaluable work as cultural mediators has given TRADUKI its name.
Today, the TRADUKI network involves Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland as well as several countries of the former Yugoslavia as well as Albania, Bulgaria and Romania.
In the TRADUKI universe there exist 105 translation combinations – so there is much to do for translators. For these, the TRADUKI network runs an attractive grant programme. Publishers from German-speaking countries and Southeast Europe are eligible for support. TRADUKI offers grants for works of fiction, poetry, and drama, books for children and young adults as well as cultural non-fiction. Twice a year, publishers are invited to apply with interesting translation projects. In addition, festivals and literary institutions can apply twice a year for project grants. At book fairs, festivals and own events, TRADUKI organises, readings, discussion panels and book presentations about and with supported authors and writers. These events in Southeast Europe, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein promote exchange between Southeast European and German language literary scenes. With TRADUKI, Southeast Europe was the Region in Focus at the Leipzig Book Fair in the years 2020-2022. Also in the future, TRADUKI will continue to be a vital part of the Leipzig Book Fair, Buch Wien and many other book fairs and festivals across Southeast Europe, where we actively foster the deepening of ties between our TRADUKI partners. In addition, we annually organise the Balkan Film Week. Online we are present throughout the year with several digital formats, including Literaturpalast Audiospur, Literarischer Nerd „erliest“ Südosteuropa and Revisiting Residencies.

TRADUKI offers translators, authors and other experts from the literary world residencies in Southeast Europe. To date, several authors and translators have taken the opportunity to immerse themselves in new literary landscapes and work on their projects, for example in Belgrade, Sarajevo, and Split.
