In Bulgaria, Angel Igov’s novel caused a minor sensation. Now Die Sanftmütigen (eta Verlag 2019), magnificently translated into German by Andreas Tretner, has been nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the category “translation”. In restraint and sensitive fashion, the book explores one of Bulgaria’s biggest taboos in its history after 1944: the establishment of the communist People’s Republic based on the Soviet example.
In the “non-fiction and essay” category, Michael Martens is nominated for his biography of Ivo Andrić: Im Brand der Welten: Ivo Andrić. Ein europäisches Leben.
Congratulations to Andreas Tretner and Michael Martens on their nominations!
