Fox – How Are Stories Made?
Neither fiction nor essay – the novel Fox takes us on a whirlwind journey and questions the practices and dynamics involved in the craft of storytelling. Fox is the latest work by Dubravka Ugrešić (1949–2023) to be translated into German. Ugrešić was born in Yugoslavia and lived there until 1991, when she went into exile in the Netherlands due to the hostile environment in Croatia, where she was ostracized for her critical stance against nationalism and warmongering. Ugrešić called herself a “postnational” writer and published several works of essays and fiction as well as children’s books. In the talk we will discuss Fox, Ugrešić as a person and writer, feminist writing and the act of translation.
– Conversation with Marie Alpermann (translator), Zlatan Tunjić (academic) and Lilian Peter (author, translator).
The Feminist Book Fair Berlin will be held on 18 & 19 April. The full programme can be viewed here.
The event is part of a book tour promoting Ugrešić’s German edition of Fox, supported by TRADUKI.
