March sees the release of short-story collections by two arresting newcomers from Southeast Europe: Grün wie ich dich liebe grün (Folio) by Slovenian writer Ana Schnabl, who received many accolades for her debut, and Nennt mich Esteban (eta Verlag) by Bosnian author Lejla Kalamujić, who equally has received many prizes for her work. In addition, the German translation of Partisanenpost (bahoe books) by Serbian comic artist Aleksandar Zograf is available starting this month.

For those who like to keep it “classy”: Im Brand der Welten: Ivo Andrić. Ein europäisches Leben by Michael Martens (Zsolnay 2019) was published last year, the first biography of the eminent Nobel laureate in the German language. The book was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize 2020 in the non-fiction and essays category and is well worth a read.
